Home Choice Plus

I have been Accepted as Homeless

(The Housing Act 1996, Part VII, as amended by the Homelessness Act 2002)

If a Council has accepted a statutory duty under the homeless legislation to rehouse you, you will be expected to bid for all properties, for which you are eligible.

Where the Council have accepted a homeless duty to an applicant, a priority status will be awarded and because of this status the process is a little different.

  • Your priority banding will be time limited for 3 months – it will then be reviewed.
  • You will be expected to have made a bid or bids within the first 2 weeks of receiving your priority banding.
  • You may be assisted with your bidding by any of the partners in Home Choice Plus, where  properties become available.
  • If a suitable offer is refused the Homelessness Duty may be discharged and the applicant may cease to have a priority status. Please Note: Temporary Accommodation arranged by the Council is also likely to be discharged, a reasonable time to vacate, will be given.
