Home Choice Plus

Advertising Mutual Exchange Properties

We also offer a new way of advertising your Council or Housing Association propert for an exchange.  It may be that in your district, the only way to mutually exchange your property is to look in a Mutual Exchange Book or Swap Book.  You may have been looking to move and have been on the transfer list with your particular Council or Housing Association for quite some time.  Home Choice Plus are now offering you the opportunity to advertise your property on our website and view properties of other applicants, who are also looking to move.

To be able to advertise your property, you must be a current Council or Housing Association tenant of one of the participating partners of Home Choice Plus and have a Secure or Assured Periodic Tenancy.

You must ensure all of the following are met before you continue with a Mutual Exchange:

  • You must ensure you have written permission from your Housing Association to mutually exchange.  If you do not do this and go ahead with a Mutual Exchange, you may cease to be a legal tenant.

You should not move or make any arrangements for moving until you have the Council or Housing Association's written permission and have signed a new tenancy, otherwise you may cease to be a legal tenant and possession proceedings may commence.

You must:

  • Have your property inspected and approved as being of a 'fit standard' by your Council or Housing Association.
  • Have a clear rent account.
  • If your property has been fitted with aids and adaptations, the Council or Housing Association may only consider exchanging with people who have a need for this type of property.
  • If there have been reports of any anti-social behaviour, they will be investigated before an exchange will be considered.
  • You can only exchange to a property that is suitable for your needs, in line with the Council or Housing Association's policy.
  • You will need to have evidence of gas and electric safety checks (as applicable).

If you would like to advertise your property with Home Choice Plus, you will need to complete an application form, if you are not already registered.

To advertise your property on the Mutual Exchange Register you will need to login. You can also include a photograph of your property.  The photograph must be sent to us in jpeg format via email.

Please email to:

Bromsgrove District Housing Trust
Elgar Housing Association
Stratford on Avon District Council
Wychavon District Council
Community Housing

You must ensure you include your phone number on the advert, so people can contact you in person.

Your property will be advertised for 2 months, we will then review your exchange to see if you have been successful.  We rely on you to inform us, if you have been successful, so we can remove your property advert, from the website.  If you have not found a suitable exchange, you will be contacted and asked if you wish to continue to advertise your property.

Council or Housing Association tenants may also wish to use the national HomeSwapper service to seek a move. HomeSwapper can be accessed via the following link: http://www.homeswapper.co.uk/  Please note that there may be a charge to register with HomeSwapper, unless your landlord already pays a charge which will allow you to advertise for free. Please contact your landlord for further information.
